Protecting Communities, Fighting Crime

Labour Police and Crime Commissioners will:

• Stand up for communities against the Tories’ 20 per cent cuts to policing which will lead to the loss of over 16,000 police officers
• Keep police on the beat by protecting neighbourhood policing.
• Back a strong and swift response to antisocial behaviour within 24 hours.
• Be tough on crime, and tough on the causes of crime.
• Protect the police from political interference.

On Thursday 15 November 2012, the elections for Police and Crime Commissioner are your chance to deliver a verdict on an out of touch Tory-led Government and their failure to support our communities on crime.

For the first time ever you will be able vote in elections for a Police and Crime Commissioner who will be accountable for how crime is tackled in your police force area.

In Wales, Labour has recognised the need for strong and safe communities. For example the Welsh Labour Government committed to recruiting 500 Community Support Officers because we know that the people of Wales believe in safe communities and social justice.

The Tories are putting the safety of our communities at risk by making 20 per cent cuts to the police and opening the door to the privatisation of policing.

We will work with our Labour team of Police and Crime Commissioners in Wales, along with Ed Miliband and Yvette Cooper to stand up and protect communities and fight crime.
